Community Employment Services
These services are individually designed to help a person choose, obtain and retain employment in the community. Offered to people in the Extended Employment Program and to individuals referred by a third party, these selected services include:
- Job development
Job development services include Goodwill staff reviewing the local labor market for appropriate job openings, meeting with community employers to discuss the benefits of hiring one of Goodwill’s community workers, facilitating a hiring agreement with an employer and promoting Goodwill’s employees and available support services.
- Job-site training
Training is provided by Goodwill staff in cooperation with the employer. It can include: assisting the new employee with performing job tasks or with understanding the work culture and environment; teaching and monitoring the work behaviors expected by the employer; and, if needed, training the employer and co-workers in understanding the accommodations needed by the worker.
- Job supports
Customarily provided by a Goodwill Job Coach, these services are employment-related activities needed to promote a worker’s adjustment to his/her job. Support services are tailored to the individual needs of the worker. Support services address such issues as improving productivity levels, learning new job tasks or adapting to changes in a schedule, adjusting to new supervisors, managing changes in non-work environments and resolving other issues related to retaining employment.
Staffing and related services
Each individual in the Extended Employment Program at Goodwill has a Case Manager as part of his/her rehabilitation team. The Case Manager works with the individual, and members of the support team, in the development of vocational goals that reflect the employment needs and preferences of the individual, whether at Goodwill or in the community.
Support Groups are available for Brain Injury, AA and Mental Health. Staff can refer people to various other community resources if Goodwill does not have specific support available.
