Ken's Story

For eleven years, the results of a tragic accident had left Ken unable to work. Then, he was referred to Goodwill.

“I couldn’t remember what work I had done before my accident,” Ken said.

First, he received Work Adjustment Training services that helped him identify the skills he had that could be put to use in a job in the community. Then he entered Goodwill’s Extended Employment program and, with the support of the Community Employment Services team, was placed in a job in a local warehouse.

“Goodwill people helped me get this job,” Ken said. “I knew how to work, but I hadn’t done this work before. Goodwill helped me. I’ve worked here a long time now.”

Twenty years, in fact. Ken’s supervisor at the warehouse describes Ken as a valued, dependable worker who provides good, quality work. And that work has added value to Ken’s life, returning him to the world of employment that he enjoyed before his accident. Today, Ken continues to receive support from Goodwill, and resides independently in Duluth.
